Plans to create a massive new hub for science and technology companies in Cambridge have moved a further step forward, with the news that the firm behind the plans has bought a sizeable area of land.
Abstract Cambridge Ltd has acquired a piece of land at Fulbourn Road for use as part of this development, which is expected to cover 15.26 acres when it is completed. The Cambridge International Technology Park will be the single biggest hub for tech and science firms in the area when it eventually opens its doors.
A planning application has been submitted to Cambridge City Council by Abstract Cambridge Ltd for this newly acquired stretch of land to be used to construct offices with laboratory facilities built into them. These will be targeted at standard businesses, as well as biotech and life sciences companies, and they will occupy 500,000 square foot of the land.
Firms that move into parks like these sometimes find that local shops that provide services like business card printing are of real use to them.
This ambitious project will be situated roughly 2.5 miles from the centre of Cambridge, to its south east, and will be worth anything up to £500 million. According to current estimates, it is expected to be ready to open to science and technology firms around two years from now.
