Cambridge could get new restaurant
A brand new restaurant may be set to open on a street in the centre of Cambridge, with the developer having submitted an application to change the use of the chosen space to the council.
This application would see two buildings that stand at the intersection of Green Street and Sidney Street transformed into a restaurant. The two-storey building on Sidney Street currently houses the Edinburgh Woollen Mill on its ground floor and an architecture firm on its first floor. The one on Green Street used to be home to a Japanese fast-food outlet, but is currently lying empty.
If the application is given the go ahead, all of the floors in both of these buildings would be used for the new restaurant. The Edinburgh Woollen Mill has been in financial trouble since 2020 and underwent a takeover at the beginning of the following year.
Giveaway promotional products that are printed and supplied at affordable prices by shops in Cambridge are one of the ways that the owners of new restaurants sometimes use to attract customers when they first open.
For these plans to move forward, Cambridge City Council would have to agree to change the uses of the two buildings from their current classifications of A1, A3 and B1 to E.
No word on when a decision will be made by the council has yet been announced.
