This facility will be named Barn4 and will be constructed by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB), an organisation that specialises in crop research, with The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority having agreed to provide the money required. The planned business incubator will cost £2.5 million to build and will be based at a site called Park Farm, which is located just outside of Cambridge.
Once it is completed, it will offer small and medium-sized agritech start-ups office space, laboratories, workshop facilities and meeting rooms. It will also be fully equipped for video conferencing and have the high-grade external and internal growing spaces and computing capabilities that NIAB has developed.
It will be another useful service in the area for start-ups, alongside shops that Print bespoke Business Cards, for example, which they can sometimes use when they are attending networking events.
Speaking to Horti Daily, James Palmer, the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Mayor said:
“Agritech is one of our key growth areas and I am absolutely delighted that the Combined Authority has enabled NIAB to create Barn4, which will help the sector expand and flourish.”
Barn4 will be opening its doors next spring.
