Regina to host is version of Nuit Blanche
One of Canada’s most unique artistic traditions will be taking place in Regina this September for the second year running.
Inspired by events of the same name held around the world, Nuit Blanche Regina will aim to creatively transform the city over the course of one night.
Nuit Blanche is a festival of outdoor artwork using the downtown environment as a backdrop. Electronic works and projection are popular media, but performers can use a variety of tools including theatre, graphic design, dance, sculpture, poster printing and music.
The Nuit Blanche phenomenon began in Paris in 2001, and the concept has since spread across the world. Canada in particular has embraced the festival, with large editions happening in Montreal and Toronto every year.
The Regina event has put out an open call for submissions, with both experienced and emerging artists encouraged to apply. The announced theme will be ‘Reflections of the Land’, and the event will be looking for artwork that:
Regina’s Nuit Blanche 2019 will take place on September 29, running from dusk until midnight. Art venues will include the City Square Plaza, Victoria Park and FW Hill Mall.

“reminds us of the way we occupy, immigrate, move and build space, debating the sense of belonging and the constant journey between places. The concept of land helps us to go beyond the tangibility of the place, exploring time-space, oral cultures and memories, potentialities of places, and fictional or unreal locations. The land unfolds itself in many narratives, aesthetics and characters.”
