What's Happening in Vaughan, ON…

Vaughn event to turn trash into treasure

The old axiom about “one man’s trash being another man’s treasure” will be put into practice during a special event that will be coming to sidewalks all across Vaughn this autumn.

As part of the curbside pickup program, residents who have items that they no longer need but that are still in good condition will have an opportunity to

have them picked up by someone else who can make use of them. The materials can then be upcycled or otherwise re-purposed, and it will help to divert them from the landfill or other disposal site.

Anyone who would like to participate in the initiative has been asked to place their items at the curbside or at the edge of the sidewalk where it won’t block pedestrians. They have also been requested to indicate that they are being offered for pick up by placing a sign next to them that says “ FREE- Curbside Giveaway”. At the end of the event, they are asked to remove any items that were not gathered by someone else, otherwise, they may receive a by-law violation ticket.

This opportunity for local residents to be a part of building a sustainable city will be held in September and October. A printing services provider can be called upon to design post cards to mail to local households to inform them that an event like this is taking place and also where they can go to get more information.

The curbside pickup dates for September are the 29th and 30th, and in October, it will be held on the 20th and 21st. More details can be found on the Vaughan website.
