What's Happening in Vaughan, ON…

Vaughans ArtWalk comes to life with drive-in series

The recently-constructed ArtWalk district in Vaughan has been attracting residents with a series of drive-in movie screenings that will be continuing to the end of the month.

The series launched on July 10, and has been exhibiting outdoor movies on Thursday and Saturday throughout the summer. The movies selected are a mixture of classics and recent releases, all intended to appeal to a wide audience. Ironically, a recent showing of the 1990s disaster movie Twister was canceled due to bad weather. The series is set to conclude with showings of the Robin Williams comedy Mrs. Doubtfire and the 2010 science fiction hit Inception.

The series of screenings is designed to highlight the ArtWalk district, a part of the intentionally designed Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. Running concurrently with the series is Street Eats Market, a park with food trucks offering a range of cuisine from tacos to Beaver Tails. ArtWalk also features an ever-changing mural space that is meant to be a canvas for local artists. Alongside promotional events, tools like flyer printing and social media are often used to call attention to new areas.

The drive-in movie series and is set to continue on Thursdays and Saturdays for the rest of September, concluding with the showing of Inception on the 30th. Street Eats Market is also open daily for the rest of the month.
