This will be the third year of the Festival, which will begin with the lighting-up of the official Vaughan sign at city hall. The free kick-off event will feature live entertainment, winter refreshments, and family-friendly activities. The aim of the festival is to recognize residents who excel at creating holiday light displays, with winter holidays from all cultures recognized. Promotional material emphasizes this interest in diversity:
“Festive lights and decorations are a hallmark of the holiday season, and, for many cultures and faiths, they are a meaningful symbol to get the community in the festive spirit at this time of year.”
Residents and businesses are invited to nominate themselves, a neighbour, or a community institution for their light displays. Entries are selected based on energy efficiency, creativity and overall aesthetic, with those chosen receiving an official Festive Lights sign to display on their front lawn or window. Municipal governments often use methods like brochure printing and official websites to inform people of local cultural programs and their details.
The 2025 Vaughan Festival of Lights will officially kick off on November 12 with an event in the Courtyard of Vaughan City Hall, and will continue until the end of the year.
