What's Happening in Vaughan, ON…

Vaughan plays its part for the planet

Vaughan will be holding its annual Earth Hour celebration at the end of the month.

Among the activities planned for the day will be an exhibit about professional energy, a lantern making session that will be followed by a lantern lit walk around the community, a night cycling ride, a round of Environmental Jeopardy for secondary schools who choose to participate, and refreshments and live entertainment for those who take part.

There will also be an awards ceremony at which Vaughan’s Green Heroes will be recognized for their efforts in protecting the environment and encouraging sustainability.

Those who visit the exhibit that deals with energy conservation will be given an opportunity to learn about how to save money by lowering their energy consumption, as well as environmentally friendly ideas for home, school, and work. People can have the questions answered by experts in the field. Brochure printers can create pamphlets for the public to take home with them that provide even more information.

Those who are interested in taking part in the night cycling route are asked to register with the Bicycle Users Group, and they must have proper equipment to make it safe for them to ride in the dark.

The festivities are scheduled to take place on March 28 at the city hall starting at 6:30 pm, with Earth Hour being held that same night, beginning at 8:30 pm.
