Vaughan gallery to celebrate Mothers Day Cajun-style

The Vaughan-based McMichael Canadian Art Collection will be hosting a unique Mother’s Day event this May inspired by the culture of New Orleans.

The evening, called New Orleans Night at the McMichael, will be a combination dinner and concert. A prix fixe meal with nods to Cajun cuisine will be available at CABIN, formerly the McMichael Cafe, which will also be hosting a Brunch Special earlier in the day. Following the dinner, the Red Hot Ramble band will be performing in the gallery’s Northwest Coast room, which combines pieces from its collection with strong acoustics. The dinner is an optional addition for its own fee, with the concert also available separately.

The Ramble, led by vocalist Roberta Hunt on piano and vocals and also featuring a brass horn section, play a Louisiana-esque blend of jazz, blues, and funk, including some Beale Street classics. The event is designed to appeal to those looking for a different type of Mother’s Day celebration, and is one of numerous social events hosted on the gallery’s grounds. Events such as this, typically promoted through methods such as brochure printing and social media, can help to both raise money from the gallery and encourage people to view art in new ways.

New Orleans Night at the McMichael will take place on the evening of May 13.
