Vaughan Con set to return
The popular-culture gathering Vaughan Con will be returning to the city after a two-year absence this coming August.
The one-day event is a gathering of vendors and fans of everything nerdy, ranging from superheroes to science fiction. It is a popular spot for fans to show off their costumes of popular characters, and there will be a number of vendors and special guests related to cosplay, including experts Frank Coraci, Roberto Arias, the Married Makers duo and Comic Medic. Other announced special guests include prop and costume maker Andrew Speranza, artist Rob Thibodeau and Devin Caron, host of YouTube series “The Dev Show.”
For many attendees, the appeal of conventions like Vaughan Con is the chance to browse specialty vendors and artists in a concentrated spot. There will be both commercial vendors and an “artist’s alley” offering unique drawings of popular and original characters. For fans, these marketplaces can offer a chance to find rare promotional products or great deals on sought-after goods, including toys, comics and trading cards. There will also be a display by the “Ontario Order of the Phoenix”, inspired by the Harry Potter series. More attractions and guests may be announced in the weeks leading up to the convention.
