Vaughan area festival to showcase youth films

The North York area will be hosting the ICFF Youth festival this April, showcasing the cinematic art for students aged 8 to 18.

ICFF Youth is a spin-off of the annual festival which aims to promote a love of film and understanding of the art of film-making in Canada. There will be screenings of family films from around the world, including the animated feature A Greyhound of a Girl, the French action-adventure Belle et Sebastien: Nouvelle Generation, and the horse-racing drama Ride Above. Each film will be presented with an educational package for teachers and parents, to encourage youth to reflect on what they have seen, and special guest speakers.

Classes of students will be welcomed from throughout the Greater Toronto Area, from cities such as Vaughan and Richmond Hill, in addition to individual tickets being available. The festival will aim to promote knowledge of other cultures, including Indigenous Canadian cultures through Shelley Niro’s film Cafe Daughter. The ICFF was founded in 2012 and has since grown to include several separate events held across Canada each year, including ICFF Youth. Film festivals like this are often promoted through poster printing and social media, and can help provide exposure for smaller-budget films.

The 2024 ICFF Youth festival will take place at the Cineplex Cinemas Yorkdale Mall in Toronto from April 8 to 13.
