Vaughan a potential new location for York University campus
Having a large educational institution within its borders can be a huge boost to the economic and cultural life of a city- and Vaughan may soon be reaping these benefits.
The city will be making its pitch at an upcoming meeting of York University’s Steering Committee, where it is hoped that the university will choose Vaughan as the preferred location for its new satellite campus.
The area that the city council has selected is believed to have a lot going for it that makes it an attractive choice.
Located at the Vaughan Metropolitan Center, the area would have direct access to both the Spadina subway line and Viva rapid transit bus line. This would allow students and faculty from all over the Greater Toronto Area to attend the facility with ease. It would also reduce the number of vehicles required to get them there.
Further, its location near the city’s downtown core would put them within steps of a wide range of commercial and retail sites, as well as a chance to immerse themselves in the all the cultural opportunities that the neighborhood has to offer.
If Vaughan is chosen, it will be a win-win situation for both the city and the university. This sort of development can be a big boost the economy; one sector that will benefit will be businesses that provide support and services, such as printing companies.
