Shaping the future of cycling in Vaughan

Whether you cycle for fun, commuting, exercise or sport, the City of Vaughan would like to hear from you. The Vaughan Cycling Forum (VCF) is a brand new initiative for cyclists to shape the future of cycling in Vaughan.

Cycling is one of the most popular leisure activities, with more participants every year. While some bike trails run through parks and open spaces, the majority of cycling happens on the road. Since bicycles have to share the road with cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, roller-bladers and pedestrians, many safety issues arise.

York Region has addressed some of the safety issues in a comprehensive document entitled, The Region of York Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan, 2008. However, the City of Vaughan wants to give everyone a chance to participate. If you would like to see more off-road trails to your favourite destinations, more on-road bicycle lanes, wider streets, more clearly defined parking spaces on the roads, the VCF is a good opportunity to express your views.

You don’t have to belong to a cycling club to participate. The VCF is for everyone, to share stories, voice your opinion, and learn about new initiatives.

A colourful, informative poster is available online by following the links at http://vaughan.ca/cycling. You can send the PDF to a printing company for poster printing if you would like one for your office, home or club.

The first forum will be held in early 2012. Details of the meeting time and date will be posted on the website.
