What's Happening in Vaughan, ON…

Public information office opens in Vaughan

Expansions of both the TTC subway line and the new Viva rapidway have been planned for the city of Vaughan. It is hoped that the improvements will make commuting easier and encourage more people to leave their cars at home.

To keep area residents and other stakeholders abreast of developments, York Region has opened a new information office.

Located at Jane and Highway 7, the office is staffed by community liaisons, and it will be the place for members of the public to have their questions answered and to raise any concerns they may have with the project. It will also serve as a meeting place for project planners, engineers and other parties to review documents and plans. The office is currently open Mondays between 9:00am and 12:00pm, and on Wednesdays between 2:00 and 6:00pm.

The expansion will extend the Younge, Spadina and University line and will include three new stops past the Downsview station. The new final station for the subway line will be the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

The information centre has already had several visitors, and as the project nears completion, it is expected to host many more. Brochure printers have provided materials for distribution to the public. York Region plans to keep the office open until 2018, at which point it is hoped that the work will be completed.

Those members of the public who can't visit during regular hours or anyone else seeking information are also encouraged to visit the project's website and sign up to receive regular updates and bulletins.
