New chancellor installed at local uni

At a recent ceremony held at York University, Vaughan’s Gregory Sorbara received the latest in his long list of honors and accolades.

During the first convocation ceremony of 2014, he was installed as the 13th Chancellor of GTA’s York University. The event was held at the university’s Keele Campus in the Rexall Center.

His duties as the ceremonial head of the institution will include conferring degrees, presiding over convocation ceremonies, and acting as ambassador of the school. This is an area in which he has a lot of experience, being a lifelong public servant.

In a recent interview, he noted that receiving this distinction from his alma mater has been a great honor, and that the university is vital to the wellbeing of the GTA.

One area in which he plans to expend a lot of effort is in making Vaughan the first choice of locations for York University’s planned satellite campus. The city currently sits on a shortlist along with Markham and Richmond Hill as the top three possibilities.

In addition to his new duties as Chancellor, he is currently writing his memoirs, and hopes to have them completed for publication this fall.

With his new title, he may well find that he needs updated business cards. A local firm that performs digital business card printing services will be able to produce them.
