McMichael Canadian Art Collection: Canadian art in Vaughan

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is located in Kleinburg, Ontario, a village which is now part of the city of Vaughan. The collection consists of over 5,000 works of art with an emphasis on Canadian art. Firms who provide poster printing services often get their design inspirations from Canadian galleries such as the McMichael.

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection was begun in 1952 when Robert and Signe McMichael bought the land and built their home. The first work of art they collected was Montreal River by Lawren Harris in 1955. Harris was a member of the Group of Seven, a Canadian art movement which originally included 7 friends but grew to include at least 12 artists. This painting was the start of the biggest Group of Seven collection in the world. In 1965, the McMichael’s donated their land and home to the Province of Ontario and it officially opened to the public in July of the next year.

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection has 13 display galleries. In addition to the Group of Seven, the collection also features First Nations, Inuit and contemporary Canadian art. Other events such as lectures, music performances, workshops and children’s camps are also presented at the McMichael. Visitors will also find a restaurant, a gift shop and a sculpture garden. The collection attracts at least 100,000 visitors every year.

Galleries such as the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Vaughan not only celebrate Canadian art, they also offer endless possibilities for poster printing.
