What's Happening in Vaughan, ON…

Major golf tournament headed to Vaughan area

The Canadian Open, the biggest pro golf tournament in the country, will be taking place near Vaughan this year with an accompanying concert and other celebrations.

One of the oldest tournaments on the Professional Golf Association’s annual tour, the Open moves between different Canadian courses each year. This will be the first year it has been held since 2019’s edition at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, which was won by British golfing star Rory McIlroy.

Participating golfers include top international players, as well as Canadian players earning qualifications from regional tournaments. As with other PGA tournaments, the event is held across four days and four rounds, with the lowest combined score taking home the trophy following three days of qualifying and practice, making for a full week of golf.

The tournament will be held in Etobicoke and looks to draw in golf lovers from nearby areas, ranging from downtown Toronto to Vaughan. Major tournaments like this are popular spectator events and often encourage a number of side events. One of the biggest this year will be a pair of REC-sponsored concerts on the links on the Friday and Saturday nights, headlined by pop hitmakers Flo Rida and Maroon 5, respectively. Events such as this often use tools like banner printing to encourage people to attend.

The 2022 Canadian Open will take place at St. George’s Golf and Country Club from June 6 to 12.
