Habitat for Humanity to host dinner and fashion show

Women from across the York and Vaughan regions are being encouraged to come together when the Hammer and Heels dinner and fashion show takes place in the area next month.

With decorations that will have been created by local print companies especially for the night, it is hoped that the event, which is being presented by Habitat for Humanity, will not only raise money but also awareness of the group.

Women will see how they can play a huge part in helping the not-for-profit organization to achieve its goal of providing adequate housing for those in need.

A big part of the gala night will be getting the word out to the local community about the group and how it builds and renovates homes.

Women from across the York region are invited to come out and lend a hand when Habitat starts its next build in 2014. Even if someone has no previous building experience, they will be trained and shown just what to do. Those who do have knowledge or who are employed in the home building or construction trades are being encouraged to get involved.

The number of homes built will depend upon the level of funding raised and the cost of land and materials, but it is hoped that at least one can be completed. All the roles, from the initial design to the final construction, will be filled by women.

The Hammer and Heels show will take place at the Venetian Banquet and Hospitality Center in Vaughan on October 17. More information can be found on the charity’s official website.
