What's Happening in Vaughan, ON…

Green Energy Field Day

September 24 was a global day of action for encouraging world governments to move away from their reliance on “fossil fuels and to celebrate sustainable energy.” Ontario celebrated this event with the first Green Energy Field Day; several communities took place in this province-wide celebration including Markham, Toronto and Vaughan. Ontario companies who are already innovators in the green energy market threw open their doors to the public including Sungrow, the Windfall Ecology Centre and the Kortright Centre. In addition, several individuals and organizations held their own Green Energy Field Day events. A rally was also held at Queen’s Park to let Ontario politicians know how important sustainable energy is.

It is important that all businesses move towards being more environmentally responsible, not only will it be better for the earth but it will make us a more healthy civilization. For example, you will find it difficult to find a printing company that is not moving towards green initiatives. Most printing companies today use recycled papers, are switching to plant-based inks and are recycling their own waste products. Organizations such as Canopy help to point printers in the right direction by helping them develop environmental paper policies which avoid the use of ancient forest paper products.

Hopefully, Green Energy Field Day is just the first of many annual events. Educating the public on the possibilities of being environmentally sound while allaying their fears that it will cause job loss and a lowering in their living standards is important. Fossil fuels will not be around forever and printing companies are leading the charge in adopting ecologically sound alternatives.
