Downtown Kleinburg gets celebrations going

The forty-sixth annual Kleinburg and Area Binder Twine Festival will take place on Islington Avenue on September 8 from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $2 for children aged 2 – 12, while those who come in pioneer costume will be admitted free. The festival raises money for various community projects.

The Binder Twine Festival dates back to the late 1800s when farmers used to come to town to buy twine. It continued until 1931 and was revived in 1967. Today, the event is organized and put on thanks to the work of over 800 volunteers.

There will be plenty of activities in which to take part at the festival. There will be food concessions, arts and crafts for sale, live entertainment, a festival parade, a children's area, ‘Old Tyme’ fun and games and the Queen Contest, which chooses the festival's queen through several unique challenges. The women aged 16 and up will compete in such competitions as calling a hog, flipping pancakes, hammering nails, and milking a cow.

Those who wish to rent a craft or food concession booth pay $200 for a 10-foot table and $145 for a six-foot table. The vendors are responsible for providing tents and decoration. Those who wish to have a table at the festival will no doubt be working with Vaughan area printing companies to prepare. A clever idea would be to arrange for services such as banner printing and sign printing to make their tables more visible to those who plan to attend.
