What's Happening in St. Catharines, ON…

St. Catharines festival to go to the soil

After a successful first stage earlier in the year, the In the Soil Arts Festival will return to St. Catharines this September, featuring arts, dance and music.

The festival aims to showcase the best in local art while also bringing international creators to St. Catharines. Part 2 will kick off with a workshop performance by musician and multimedia artist Carson McHone, featuring the interplay of light and shadow and based on their new album Pentimento. Other musical artists performing across the weekend include lit-rock musician Colleen Coco Collins.

In the Soil will also include a number of theatrical performances, including an immersive storytelling experience by Dear Bear and the play Kosar Dakhilalian, which reimagines the Greek legend of Persephone through the history of the Niagara Region. Michael Cicchini will present an interactive performance inspired by tarot, while Ren Reid presents a one-person show inspired by clowning.

Those inspired to try their own creative works can explore the Vendor Bender Makers Market, including local artisans and interactive activities. Vendors at markets like this often use graphic design on signage to showcase their creativity. The festival will conclude with an All Denim Dance Party, with visitors encouraged to wear all-jean clothing.

The 2025 In the Soil Arts Festival Part 2 will take place from September 12 to 13 at The Robby at Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts in St. Catharines.
