Art exhibit to set foot in St. Catharines
The Square Foot Show will be returning to St. Catharines this July, challenging local artists to create works in a small amount of space.
The rules of the show require each work to measure 12 by 12 inches, the eponymous square foot. There will be hundreds of these small pieces on display, created by new and emerging artists from across Canada. Featured artwork includes “Ephemeral Glow” by Judy Mayer, “Hush” by Janice Low and “Watching You” by Nancy Haskell. Artists are allowed to use a variety of styles including abstract expressionism, realism and mixed media. Artwork will also be available to purchase, for those looking for an affordable decoration or addition to their collection.
The Square Foot Show has become an annual staple of Niagara’s art scene, and is presented in partnership with Armstrong Fine Art Consulting. Works are selected through online submissions as well as curation. Art exhibitions like this often use signage and brochure printing to help identify the artwork, its inspiration, and any pricing details. Visitors can also see the permanent collection, which includes works by Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali as well as contemporary artists like Allan Lorne Hecker and HeeJung Shin.
The 2025 edition of the Square Foot Show will run from July 5 to 26 at White Galleon Gallery in downtown St. Catharines.
