Mississauga walk to be all about butterflies

Butterflies are found in almost every country in the world, often playing an important role in mythology and other cultural traditions, and they will be the stars of the show for an upcoming event in Mississauga.

The 5th annual Butterfly Blitz: Butterfly Identification Walk is right around the corner for the Riverwood Conservancy, and it will be on offer thanks to a partnership between this group and the Credit Valley Conservation. It is part of a larger initiative to record data and protect these colourful fliers, and it will be its fifth year.

The participants in the Butterfly Blitz session will enjoy a guided hike through the Riverwood Conservancy’s property in Mississauga, and the facilitator will point out various species along the way. Tips for providing an accurate identification, as well as the iNaturalist programme, will be shared, and it will help these citizen scientists to add to the overall research into butterflies and other pollinators.

Environmental stewardship groups that host public activities will be able to order Pens, Journals, field guides and other items from area Stationery printers.

The Butterfly Blitz: Butterfly Identification Walk will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 9th. The venue is located at 4300 Riverwood Park Lane, and participants will meet at the entrance to the venue's gardens. Advance registration is recommended.
