Mississauga event to celebrate seed saving

Seedy Saturdays are an offshoot off the seed-saving movement, and Mississauga is preparing to welcome one of these events.

A day that will be dedicated to seed saving, swapping and starting will be held in early March at 84 S Service Road in Mississauga, and all ability levels are welcome.

The morning will kick off with a presentation that introduces an assortment of seed starting methods and how to prevent problems they may encounter, such as damping off. This will be followed by a discussion of container and raised bed growing, making the most of worms, why choosing native plants is a good idea and dealing with weeds. The function has been organized, in part, by the Mississauga Master Gardeners. Sales and information booths will be set up on site as well, and admission is by donation, with the suggested amount being $20.

Along with all the other activities, the occasion will include door prize draws and light refreshments. They will also have lots of time to meet other green thumbs from their community. Any hard copy learning materials needed for an event like this one will be available at Stationery printers.

Mississauga is set to kick off another gardening season with this Seedy Saturday event on March 4th. It will begin at 9:30 am and end at 3:30 pm.
