Staying fit around the holidays is always a bonus, especially when you have eaten far too much turkey. More than 100 Mississauga marathoners are feeling a little firmer and lighter this season after braving some pretty bad rain in order to complete the fourth annual Don Rowing Club Christmas run organized by Runners Mark in Port Credit and Mississauga, winding around Waterfront Trail.
Participants in the race also included out of towners and international runners, in addition to local residents. Dennis van Bakel, who was on a business trip in the area from his home in the Netherlands, won the final, completing the 10K race in just 38 minutes, 56 seconds. Zoey Mack finished first in the ladies category, finishing in an impressive 43 minutes, 49 seconds.
The Mississauga run began promptly at 9:00 am. Breakfast was also served after the run at the Don Rowing Club, and awards were handed out by Saucony & Runners Mark for various age categories, including 18 and under, 19-39 and 40+. The Rowing Club also held a simultaneous 5K walk and run and 5K run, for those unable to compete in the 10K but still wanting to get fit and have fun.
Printing companies in the Mississauga area can help ensure community and social events like the run at the Don Rowing Christmas run are a resounding success. Open to members and non-members alike, it was advertised to the community through poster printing on billboards in Mississauga and Port Credit neighborhoods as well as within the club.
