Each year, Mississauga's Celebration Square is converted to a huge outdoor skating rink, and while this will be on offer once again in 2020, it was noted some changes have been made in light of COVID-19.
The rink is scheduled to open in mid-December, and it will continue to welcome skaters throughout the winter months. The organizers pointed out that, as it is an outdoor ice surface, it will need to be cold enough to keep it frozen, so if temperatures rise, it may need to be closed on a temporary basis.
Everyone is welcome to lace up their skates, even if they have never been out on the ice before. Rentals may be available for anyone who does not have their own pair. Helmets are required and these can also be rented on site. Skate sharpening services will be available, and there are a variety of aids on offer that can help those with physical and mobility issues to join in the fun as well.
This community-based event is open to anyone interested. A poster printing company can create an assortment of promotional materials to post throughout the area to encourage them to come out and enjoy this sort of activity.
The Skate on the Square program will begin this Friday, December 11, and wrap up on March 21, 2021. Anyone who has questions, wants to find out if the ice is open or who needs other information is asked to visit the City of Mississauga website.
