What's Happening in London, ON…

New bus service to connect London North to St. Thomas

After a two-decade absence, London will have a public transit connection to the southwestern city of St. Thomas.

The bus service will be part of the Middlesex County Connect service, and was announced as a pilot program to begin in April. Bus fare will be $5 each way, with the route running from Dorchester’s Flight Exec Centre through Wilton Grove Industrial Park and White Oaks Mall in London before heading to St. Thomas’s Transit Centre. There will be four round trips throughout the door. County of Middlesex transportation project manager Anum Maqsood explained that the expansion stems from the growing ridership on the MCC:

“We had a 169 per cent increase in ridership in 2023 alone. We also have programs at the library where people can go for free bus passes and discounted student passes. The service itself is only $5, but we want to keep it affordable for all populations.”

People traveling to and from areas like London North and downtown can use existing buses to White Oaks to access the service. St. Thomas is home to a campus of Fanshawe College as well as attractions like the Elgin Military Museum and North America Railway Hall of Fame. Service expansions such as this often use tools like brochure printing and websites to alert transit riders.

The MCC bus service to St. Thomas will begin running on April 8, with the pilot set to extend to at least March 31, 2025.
