London North area choir to present musical tribute

London’s Voices of Broadway choir will be giving a special performance this January, paying tribute to legendary musical creator Stephen Sondheim.

The choir will perform songs from Sondheim’s decades-long career in the theatre, which included hits such as West Side Story, The Ballad of Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods, along with several other favourites of Broadway fans. The group consists of volunteer vocalists from across London and the surrounding areas, from London North to the rest of Middlesex County. This is one of a number of tributes to Sondheim after the composer passed away in 2021 at the age of 91, with the goal of highlighting his fundamental contributions to musical theatre.

This show is the start of the Voices of Broadway Choir’s tenth season, with the group also celebrating its tenth anniversary this June with a “10 Years & Counting” performance. Vocal performance events such as these are often community productions, using Print services for promotions and smaller stages for venues. The group casts based on local audition and focuses on skill development at all levels:

“Voices of Broadway promotes a welcoming, family-like atmosphere where we support and encourage growth in each other, and help each other reach new heights in a safe singing environment, and accomplish what you never knew was possible.”

The Voices of Broadway Choir’s A Tribute to Stephen Sondheim will take place on January 21, 2023, at the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre at Western University, with both afternoon and evening shows.
