Folk musicians to gather near London North

The Folk Music Ontario conference will be coming to London this October, combining the music festival and the professional conference into an event dedicated to musical development.

The conference is a product of MusicOntario and is designed to provide performance opportunities to up-and-coming folk musicians, as well as training and networking opportunities for anyone working in the music industry. Artists will perform in 30- or 15-minute showcases, where they have a chance to perform with full sound and stage productions in front of festival bookers, music agents and other industry insiders. Artists announced include the Slavic-inspired folk-punk band Dumai Dunai, Francophone Afro-soul group Amai Huda et Les Bois, and Metis roots musician Amanda Rheaume.

The conference will conclude with an awards gala, where the Ontario Folk Music Awards are presented, including the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award, ACTRA RACS Recording Artist of the Year prize and Estelle Klein Award. There will also be a number of workshops and panel discussions aimed at letting musicians both improve their craft and navigate the industry better. Networking can be just as important in music and the arts as in other industries, with Business Cards sitting alongside guitar picks, and Folk Music Ontario will include “lightning talks” networking events as well as more casual receptions.

Folk Music Ontario 2022 will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton London, near the London North area.
