3-on-3 hockey competition heads to London North

London North hockey fans may be interested in the 3ICE hockey event coming to a nearby area, featuring fast-paced 3-on-3 showdowns.

The one-night event will feature a six-team tournament bracket with each squad headed up by a hockey legend. Players involved include NHL Hall of Famers Bryan Trottier, Guy Carboneau, and Grant Fuhr. Each team will play up to three matches in a three-hour span, with the wins and losses contributing to a larger league standings, and each game consisting of two 8-minute halves with one-round shootouts to settle ties. The three-on-three hockey format has been used by many leagues for overtime periods and all-star evens and proven popular with fans, and 3ICE is hoping fans will enjoy it as the main gameplay.

The London 3ICE event is the only Ontario event in a broader North American tour that will begin and end in Las Vegas with stops in Grand Rapids, Quebec City, Nashville and more. The organization is also planning a European tour. The team with the most wins at the end of the season will lift The Patrick Cup, named after the league’s commissioner. Sports tours like this, often advertised through tools like flyer printing a local media, can provide opportunities for athletes after their days in the major leagues, and have proven successful in other sports such as basketball.

The London 3ICE event will take place on July 16 at Budweiser Gardens.
