Winnipeg workshop to welcome caregivers

A positive mealtime experience can lead to better health outcomes, and a Winnipeg workshop will equip caregivers with tools they can use to help make that happen.

Canad Inns Fort Garry in Winnipeg will be the venue for a workshop that will give direct service providers knowledge and techniques they can use with the individuals they care for. It will offer adaptive strategies as well as pitfalls to avoid, and the registration fee is $150.00.

The activity, which is open to both St. Amant staff and the general public as well, will provide tips for encouraging individuals being cared for to increase their independence and self-confidence. Risk factors involved with adults with developmental delays will be addressed as will the proper mechanics of eating and swallowing. The use of adaptive equipment and nutrition will be discussed, and oral care, how all senses can come into play when eating and food preparation methods will round out the learning.

Children with disabilities often grow up to be adults facing the same challenges, and a workshop can give their caregivers a good grounding in various care techniques. Promotional Pens can be paired with other learning materials to distribute at the beginning of an educational activity.

This professional development opportunity has been scheduled for September 18th and it will run from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm. Registration can be complete through its event listing.
