Winnipeg workshop to focus on supportive mealtimes

Manitoba’s direct service providers will be coming together for a learning opportunity that will cover topics related to feeding, swallowing and oral care.

The Feeding, Swallowing, Nutrition and Oral Care Workshop, which will be held at Canada Inns Fort Garry in Winnipeg, will help direct service providers to offer those they work with a positive and supportive mealtime experience. Developed by St. Amant, the syllabus is focused on adults with dementia or developmental disabilities, and it will be a deep dive event.

The learners will discuss strategies to help an individual become more independent at mealtimes, issues that may be encountered when feeding adults with developmental issues and more. The physical mechanics of chewing and swallowing will be reviewed, and oral care and hygiene is also on the slate. Managing mealtimes for someone living with dementia, food preparation techniques and equipment, as well as feeding tools, will also be covered. Refreshments and a light lunch are included in the registration fee of $150.00 each.

When organizing a learning session like this, planners may choose to order Notepads and promotional Pens from an area printing company.

The start time for the interactive Feeding, Swallowing, Nutrition and Oral Care Workshop is 8:30 am September 18th. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite, though St. Amant staff members may sign up for this class internally.
