Winnipeg event to help city get greener

When it comes to giving Mother Nature a helping hand, it can never be too early to get started, and a Winnipeg event will introduce environmental stewardship to people of all ages.

The plans for this year's tree planting along the Harte Trail have been made, and it's been scheduled for mid-October. The work will take place in the nature preserve located between Cathcart and Elmhurst. For those worried about the conditions, a rain date has been set in case the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The City of Winnipeg and Friends of the Harte Trail will be joining forces to help maintain and expand the city’s urban tree canopy. The goal is to install at least 200 seedlings in the hope that these will thrive and eventually grow to become mature trees that both beautify the neighbourhood and provide food and shelter for wildlife. Instruction will be provided, and while everyone plants, they can enjoy meeting and talking with the other volunteers.

The event’s listing explained that no previous experience is needed, and the tools will be supplied. A volunteer activity gives the public an opportunity to get involved in their community, and Print shops can craft small Promotional Products to distribute to thank them for their efforts and support.

This chance to add some extra green to Winnipeg’s cityscape will hit Harte Trail on October 15th. The backup rain date is set for October 22nd.
