Winnipeg workshop to teach new skill

Soapstone carving is an art form that was practiced by several First Nations groups, and an upcoming fundraising class will teach the fundamentals of the craft to those who are interested.

CancerCare Manitoba will be the beneficiary of a Winnipeg class that will be offered in early May. Tickets may be purchased for $150 each, and booking for the activity must be completed in advance. Limited spaces are on offer, so those interested are encouraged to book on quickly.

The Soapstone Carving for CancerCare class will get started in the morning, and while they learn, the attendees will be able to sip on a mimosa or a Bailey’s and coffee. A selection of light brunch items will also be served to the group. The instruction will be provided by Peguis First Nation’s Frederick Lyle Spence (Thunder Bear), and materials will be provided. The participants will be welcome to ask questions.

Learning a new crafting technique or other skill can be a lot of fun, often making in-person events that offer an opportunity to do so quite popular. Any handouts that are required for such an activity can be prepared by Stationery printing companies.

The Soapstone Carving for CancerCare class will kick off at 10:30 am on Monday, May 8th. 618 ARTlington, which is located at 618 Arlington in Winnipeg, has been booked for the workshop.
