Winnipeg to welcome return of Teddy Bears Picnic

An event that highlights children’s health is set to make its return to the city, and this will be its 35th year.

Winnipeg’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic is scheduled for September. It is being planned by the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, and it is offered thanks to financial assistance and other support supplied by the local community.

The gathering will be filled with fun for the families in attendance, and while they are enjoying themselves, the younger guests can learn about what to expect if they need to visit the hospital or other healthcare setting. They can bring along their favourite stuffed animal, and the volunteers will triage them before performing an assortment of tests and “treatments”.

Along with the healthcare simulation, the function will encourage kids to explore the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects. Food trucks will be onsite, and both medical and general volunteers are needed. The set up, the function itself and tear down will be spread out over three days, and everyone will receive a T-shirt printed with a special graphic design. Local businesses can get involved by choosing to sponsor the event.

After a brief hiatus, the annual Winnipeg Teddy Bears’ Picnic will return on September 8th. More details for volunteers, sponsors and the general public can be found on the official Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba website.
