Winnipeg runners to brave cold for local cause

Residents of Winnipeg are being asked to brave the cold and lace up their sneakers for a fundraiser that will benefit the Riverview Community Centre.

This winter, runners will be taking on a five-kilometre course that will follow Churchill Drive and the Red River Trail. Once the participants reach the Forks, they will circle back to the starting point, and anyone who wants to take on an even greater challenge can choose the longer five-mile route.

Those who choose to take part are advised to bundle up and be prepared to face some chilly conditions. It will be chip timed for anyone who requests this, and a finisher’s medal that boasts a unique graphic design will be distributed to each runner. A hot meal and a warming drink will be given out at the finish line, and anyone over the legal drinking age can have a shot of something extra added to their hot chocolate or coffee.

The organizers of the activity have pointed out that it is the only race of its kind that is on the agenda for the area in 2021. Race kits can be picked up ahead of time at 90 Ashland Avenue.

The Frostbite River Run will kick off at 10:00am on January 24th, and race packets will be ready on January 22nd and 24th. The staging area for the day will be set up at 90 Ashland Avenue.
