North Vancouver set to expand urban tree canopy

An urban tree canopy can add a lot to a cityscape, a North Vancouver activity will see more trees planted in the community.

Tree Canada has set the date for its National Tree Day, and in honour of the occasion, the neighbourhood has scheduled a community plant. It is being presented by BMO, and it can be a fun way for all ages to learn about environmental stewardship.

The gathering, which will be the largest Tree Canada has hosted to date, will be on offer in Mahon Park. Volunteers will fan out to install trees and shrubs, and with some luck and care, they will grow and thrive for many years to come. Gloves and shovels will be provided, and the species planted will be native and well adapted to local conditions. Starbucks will supply some light refreshments, and everyone is asked to bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate to the task at hand.

A community planting session or other environmental activity can bring neighbours together. Signage, T-Shirts for staff and volunteers, and other items printed with a group’s logo design that may be required for an event like this can be ordered from a local printing services company.

North Vancouver will be giving Mother Nature a helping hand with this tree plant on September 28th. Those who signed up are asked to arrive at the park no later than 1:00 pm.
