The 2014 B.C. Seniors’ Games are scheduled to be held in Langley starting in early September. As the opening date fast approaches, a call has gone out for more volunteers.
According to the games’ organizers, about half of the 1,500 “extra helpers” who are needed have signed up.
Volunteers are required for a wide range of functions, and they can sign up for anywhere from half a day to a full week.
Some of the positions that people can choose from include driving the participants to and from the competition sites, running the lost and found, performing security and traffic control functions, helping out along the different race routes, assisting at the medal podium and manning the results center.
The games also need personnel to volunteer in a first aider capacity, and they will be happy to provide training for those who need it. Those who choose to be drivers will not need a special license, and will be able to use the games’ fleet of 35 cars.
Local organizations and businesses are challenged to provide as many volunteers as possible. This will provide their employees with a chance to give something back to the community.
The games are scheduled to take place from September 9th to 13th.
