A healthy, thriving garden starts with a good foundation, and this will be the main topic of a class that will introduce the importance of good soil.
This Langley area activity will give home gardeners a deep dive into garden soils and how to use amendments and other methods to improve what they have to work with. It's being offered thanks to support from BC Plant Health Care, and time for questions has been incorporated into its agenda.
The two hour long workshop will explore what makes soil productive, and how the homeowner can tell how fertile theirs might be. They will learn about common problems and how to address them, and fertilizers, conditioners and other amendments will be reviewed. The connection between fungi found in the dirt and the plants that grow there, which is termed “mycorrhizal associations”, is on the agenda for discussion, and the class will wrap up with a review of the soil ecosystem.

This activity, which will get down and dirty when it comes to garden soils, is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm on April 30th. It will be on offer at the Edward Hoegler Training Facility in Surrey.
