Operation Red Nose is now in effect in Langley and Surrey to ensure that this Christmas season is a safe and happy one.
December 1 was the start of the Christmas campaign against impaired driving and also the 35th anniversary of the program. More than 5,600 kilometres have already been driven and more than 192 safe drives provided by the program, saving an untold number of deaths and injuries.
Local printers have a role to play in the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign, which aims to save the lives of drivers and reduce thousands of dollars of fines related to impounding, towing, and driving related charges. Yearly, an average of seven people are killed in BC in impaired driving related crashes in December. Langley RCMP has also issued six three-day prohibitions to drivers, who will pay steep fines and reinstatement fees.
Operation Red Noses’ success depends on volunteers who give back to the community, as well as on local advertising. Printing companies can help promote statistics about impaired driving, its consequences, and the availability of the program that provides free rides to drivers unfit or unable to drive home during the holiday season. Poster printing in public establishments, like bars and restaurants, can encourage people to take advantage of the free service.
Printing companies in Langley and Surrey can also help solicit local volunteers to increase the availability of Operation Red Nose, which currently covers 12 BC communities, by encouraging local residents to become involved in this opportunity to serve their community during the holidays.
