A group of volunteers at Langley’s Centennial Museum has been selected from museums from all across the province to receive a special award recognizing their efforts.
The docents at the museum were presented with a Distinguished Service Award from the BC Museum Association (BCMA) on November 13. It was given to them by Peter Tulumello, Langley’s Cultural Services Manager, who praised the recipients of all their dedication and hard work, especially since some of them have been in their volunteer position since 1974. In their role, they have provided educational programs to schools in the community, as well as within the museum itself.
Those who were honoured with the award competed with many larger institutions from all across the province. It was noted by art and heritage educator Jeff Chenatte that their hard work and dedication should serve as an inspiration to other not-for-profits and community groups.
The BCMA represents a range of museums form all across the province, from the large and well known to the small and niche. Each year, it hosts conferences for different institutions from across the province, allowing them to gather information and share best practices with one another.
