A fashion designer form Langley has begun putting her skills to work in creating clothing for young girls with complex physical challenges, making sure the pieces are both
easy to put on and fashionable so that they actually want to wear it.
The new Jolie Heart fashion line has been deigned to include special features that make them easy for girls who are in a wheelchair or who wear medical devices they need to get into and out of. Some also have special pockets to carry these devices and openings that allow feeding tubes or lines to pass through.
The designer of the new line, Ms. Taylor Byrom, told a reporter form On the Coast that the pieces are both functional and fashionable, which is important to the age group of girls it is targeted at – those aged two to five. She noted that they are meant to be cute so that the girls will actually want to wear them. Brochures can be included with each piece to provide washing and other care instructions.
Ms. Byrom explained that got the idea for the clothing after volunteering at B.C. Children’s Hospital as a part of her final year at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She used feedback from families to determine what would work best, and asked some to test out pieces of the clothing she had designed to see if they worked for them.
The feedback was very positive, and so she started designing a range of items.
