The Langley Christmas Bureau received an unexpected donation, but in order for it to reach those who need it most, the organization is calling for further donations.
The Dominion Lending Center donated 500 bikes to Lower Mainland Christmas Bureaus, and 40 of them are destined for Langley. While there are some helmets and locks being included, more are needed before they can be given to the kids. Due to the short timeframe before Christmas, the Bureau is putting out an urgent call for monetary donations.
People can help by dropping off their donation either in person or online. The Bureau will then use the funds to purchase the helmets from local stores, and the bike and helmet combinations can then be given to the disadvantaged families.
The Langley Christmas Bureau is the only one in the Lower Mainland that is entirely run by volunteers. Everyone, from the admin staff to the company that transports the toys to storage, and those who hand out the items to the families, contributes in their own time. Last year, they helped 1,650 children and, according to the Bureau, they expect the need this year to be even higher.
Receiving a bicycle at Christmas would be a nice gift for a child, and a printing company can produce promotional materials that help to get the word out to the community, informing them how and where they can help.
