An event was recently held in Langley that honored some of the residents who make a difference in the community.
The Township of Langley’s Volunteer Appreciation and Awards evening saw several people who reside in the area, and who volunteer locally, receive awards and other honors for all their efforts to make it a better place.
The celebration was held at the Langley Events Center and gave hundreds of special guests a chance to enjoy a meal and entertainment, and connect with one another.
The evening was co-emceed by Mayor Jack Froese, along with Grade 11 student and Township of Langley Youth advisory Committee member Cassidy Hryckiw.
Awards were presented to a student, an adult and also to a couple. A document printing company can create certificates that can also be presented to the winners, to go along with the trophy they receive in honor of their efforts.
The Eric Flowerdew Volunteer Award was given to Howie Vickberg, while the Pete Swensson Outstanding Community Youth Award went to Sumara Stroshein. In addition to this, the John and Muriel Arnason Award was presented to Ted and Lynda Lightfoot.
The recipient of the Swensson award also received a $750 scholarship, while the winners of the Flowerdew and Arnason awards each received $750 to donate to a charity of their own choice.
