A major pipeline expansion is an important issue for Langley landowners and an open house to discuss a proposed pipeline expansion drew over 52 people to Walnut Grove Secondary School on November 22. The services of local printing companies were no doubt important in helping to convey the key aspects of the pipeline expansion project to residents.
There is 17km of pipeline currently running through Langley, with a proposal to twin the line to double the amount of oil pumping through the lines. Langley landowners want to know the repercussion for their properties, and got an opportunity to explore the development in depth thanks to questions with Kinder Morgan representatives.
The open information meeting also gave a chance to the Pipe Up network campaigning against the project to set up their own informational booth to disseminate flyer printing to depict what they consider to be the pipeline’s negative aspects. The group has also been involved in setting up protests against Kinder Morgan’s wish to double the amount of oil pumping through the current lines.
The new pipeline would be an upgrade from the 60-year-old pipeline currently in place and would increase daily capacity to 750,000 barrels from an existing 300,000. While the exact routing is currently in place, a new corridor for pipeline installation has not yet been established.
More public meetings will follow with a chance for local residents to ask questions and express concerns. Printed information will no doubt be disseminated to landowners by both sides.
