The 27th annual Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ is returning to Langley for two days this June. Proceeds from the event go to support the British Columbia Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.
The festival will be divided up into two different championships on two different days. The first will feature the BC Chili Championship, in which teams compete in four categories – Best Darn Burger, CASI chili, Chefs Challenge, and Home Style. The entry fee for CASI Chili is $25 and Home Style is $5; the other two are free to enter.
The next day, the BBQ Championship is set to take place. Entry fees are $125 with sampling for the public, or $150 with no sampling. Teams will compete under the categories of pork shoulder, beef brisket, chicken, and pork ribs.
The event is a Preferred Qualifier for the World Food Championship in Las Vegas under the categories of chili, burger, and beef. A total of 25 teams will be competing this year with the hope of qualifying.
In order to make sure they get the attention they deserve, many of the teams may work with Langley printing companies to design and create a banner to be hung over their table.
The Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ is taking place at Cascades Casino from June 21st -22nd. Admission is by donation only; $5 is recommended. For more information, visit the official event website.
