Three motherless bear cubs have recently been taken into care at a Langley animal shelter.
The new arrivals are being looked after at the Critter Care Wildlife, where they are receiving round-the-clock attention. They will need to stay there until next year, when the plan is to release them back into the wild once the spring bear hunting season has finished.
So far, only the three cubs have been found, but that is still an unusually high number for this time of year. Staff at the shelter believe that the unseasonably warm weather has caused the bears to come out of hibernation before there were adequate food supplies available for them.
The animals are known to come into town looking for something to eat, and some end up having to be tranquilized if they become a threat to the people in the area.

The public can help by making sure that they don’t leave any edible items outside, as it could tempt the animals to come into town. Garbage should not be left outside, and bird feeders should be removed until next fall. Pets should also not be fed outside, as their food may attract bears.
