Tour of Alberta to begin in Sherwood Park

This year, the first Tour of Alberta will take place from September 3 to 8. It is expected to be Canada's answer to the Tour de France.

Alberta's Pro-Cycling Festival tour will consist of six stages over six days, the first of which will take place in Sherwood Park on September 3. It will then move on to 11 other Alberta communities and will end in Calgary on September 8.

The event is expected to attract over 300,000 spectators and a portion of the tour will be broadcast live on Sportnet; organizers are expecting it will draw 30 million viewers from around the world. The Tour of Alberta has received provincial funding and organizers expect it will bring in $30-$35 million to the province's economy each year.

The Sherwood Park stage of the tour will visit several areas of the city and will last approximately four hours. To help prepare for the tour, Strathcona County has invested $125,000. According to Mayor Linda Osinchuk, it should help to improve the local economy; she expects the money to be returned in the form of increased business for local restaurants, stores and hotels. Others hope it will also put the spotlight on local bus trails.

No doubt the city of Sherwood Park will be working with local printing companies to help market the Tour of Alberta. They could design and Print Flyers which could be distributed throughout the city; Flyers are one of the most versatile marketing tools available for businesses as they can be distributed in such a wide variety of ways.
