Third annual gluten free festival held in Sherwood Park

Sherwood Park residents were recently given an opportunity to learn more about special dietary food at the third annual Gluten Free Cravings festival.

The event took place at the Strathcoma Community Centre, and featured more than 20 booths that had been set up to demonstrate recipes that do not include gluten, and give those who came out a chance to try them for themselves. Those who had set up displays included restaurants and other food vendors.

Those who came out got to try fudge, cinnamon buns, breads, chicken wings, and salads. They also had an opportunity to buy some of the food and other items to take home for themselves. A demonstration stage was set up where the public could watch demos of how to use gluten free flours for baking and other uses.

There was no charge to attend the event, but those who wished to try the food for themselves were required to buy a $10 card that was stamped by each of the vendors who were providing samples to the crowd. These can be provided by a printing company, along with items like cards that have been printed with recipes and Brochures for the firms that take part.

The event’s organizer, Monique MacDonald, noted that the goal of the festival was to provide a family friendly event that showcased the ways a person can eat gluten free while still having a diet they enjoy.
