Sherwood Park workshop to promote kids safety

Being on their own for the first time is a common rite of passage for young people, and an online class will make both Sherwood Park parents and kids confident that it will be a safe experience.

This virtual workshop, which is a presentation of Strathcona County, will be filled with tips that will help to prepare tweens for being at home alone. It will be an activity for parents and children to attend together, and as it will be offered virtually, they can participate from their own living room.

The session will use scenario-based learning to teach, and the kids will be encouraged to use their problem-solving skills. They will learn how to handle a variety of situations they may encounter, and when it is over, each of the attendees will have the foundation for an individualized plan they can use.

This free activity will be held on a Saturday afternoon, and it will run for an hour and a half Questions can be directed to the organizers directly. Promotional Pens and other items can be distributed to kids who complete a class like this, and “safe at home” packs can be created and filled with items such as lists of emergency numbers, tips, activity sheets and other materials.

The Confident on My Own workshop is scheduled for February 20th. It will begin at 1:30pm.
